Preoperative instructions - FUT

We are honoured by the confidence you invest in us. In order to prepare for your procedure in the best possible way, please follow these instructions :

  • If you are a smoker, it’s best not to smoke 24 hours prior to the procedure.
  • Reframe from drinking alcohol in the 3 days leading up to surgery.
  • On the day of your procedure, take a bath/shower and wash your hair with your regular shampoo. Avoid putting hair gel or any other lotion on your hair (do not apply Minoxidil).
  • It’s important to have a good breakfast the morning of your procedure and to avoid clothing that covers the neck : it’s better to opt for a shirt.
  • As a reminder, for the purpose of FUT, your donor area will be shaved in order to harvest grafts and tissue. Shaving will slightly exceed the upper and lower edges in order to allow a proper surgical stitch or "suture".

Medication

You will take the following medication :

  • Medrol 4mgr : Two 4mg pills, three times daily. This is a preventive treatment for oedema of the forehead. In general, it does not need to be taken if the surgery is only to the vertex.
  • Augmentin 500mg (or any other amoxicillin-based medicine) : Three times daily which is an antibiotic aimed at preventing infection.

The Medrol + Augmentin treatment is to be started on the day before your procedure and needs to be continued for 5 days in total. During your consultation you reported no existing allergies to these drugs. If that’s not the case, please contact Dr. Plovier as soon as possible. Moreover, should you not be able to find the prescribed medication, kindly let us know so we can provide these during your preoperative consultation. In this case, your medication intake starts on the day of surgery instead of the day before.
